X'Treme: Immortal 09 Winner
Gencon 09 is gone and past and with it we have a new X'Treme: Immortal winner!!
Congratulations Jon (Immorfeus)!!!

As some of you may recall, it was at Gencon 08 we began a Dark Age tradition; our first ever X'Treme: Immortal Tournament. The premise of this tournament is that the winner would receive the chance to work with the Dark Age Games Development team to make their very own officially-sanctioned unique miniature and rules for use the Dark Age gaming system.

The title of Warlord of Samaria would not rest easy on last year's winner, but instead was wrestled away in round after round of bloody combat. It's time to shine on Jon!!! Here he is giving his Runner-Up, Owen(McNS) a smack down!

It was a very exciting match, and both competitors were top notch, with very tough armies and very well painted ones at that!

To briefly recap, last years winner was Hoj, starting his own tradition of kicking the Runner-up's arse:

And as we promised, we worked with Hoj for months to mould the background, rules and finally...the coveted unique Warlord of Samaria (2008) miniature: Hoj.

But you need more than just a miniature to play so we created the cornerstone gaming aid for Hoj as well, his Unit Card.

Okay, this one was a prank and distributed only at GenCon...but the official card will be printed once we get a studio paintjob completed of the Hoj miniature.

+++++

Back on topic; here is Jon's Army: Followers of the Heretic

Owen's Army: Dragyri Air Caste

Although all participants received prizes from the Dark Age Booth some received special awards:

Top Player; Jon. Best Painted; Owen, and Sportsman; Hoj. All three of these VIPs received one of these gorgeous trophies for their accomplishments:

Now Jon will have the dubious honor of working with the Dark Age Games Development team to make his very own unit for the game. The idea Jon wants to work up from; the MVP of his match, an über-grafter!!!!! We look forward to working with Jon, and all the exciting work in store for us for the next year!!! Be sure to polish up your game and get your Forces ready for X'Treme: Immortal 2010!!!! Gencon 2010 will be a great year to be a Dark Age fan!!!! Hope to see you all there!!!!

Product Update
Dark Age Games new base inserts and pre-release miniature
2 new sets of base inserts from Dark Age Games:

Each of these set come in 3 sizes (30mm, 40mm and 50mm) and will fit inside premium round bases or on top of traditional GW bases. They are designed so that there is enough room on the base insert for you to fit your miniature onto.

Groundwerks Base Inserts - Frigid Barrens

In order to allow for interesting effects, the Frigid Barrens series is all made with clear resin. This way, you can add LED lights on the bottom of the base or use masking techniques to leave the icicles clear, all in an effort to make basing miniatures more interesting.

Groundwerks Base Inserts - Mosaic Ruins

Unlike the Lava Slab series which has a smooth surface on top, the Mosaic Ruins series all have tiled designs edged into the top of the insert.

Also Dark Age Games will be unveiling a new faction at Gen Con iNDY 09' - The Outcasts. The first of the releases is Manhunter. CMON has the first 50 here on a first come first serve basis. If you want to be the first to get this miniature, now is the time, or you will wait till the general release at Gen Con Indy.

New Concept Art
In Dark Age Game's forthcoming SC10 book on the horizon not only do we have the updated Forcelist for the Air Caste we decided to throw in a few new units for some of the other Forces. Get ready to meet the Ice Caste - Hail-Kin!

After the battle of the Sanguine Plateau things changed for the Ice Caste. The Tack’kut of the Ice had always known battle and hardship. But ‘Those Without Honour’ were an enemy of a totally new kind. The Ice Caste had always faced other Tack’kut, native beasts or the unwavering Elementals of the Apocalypse, but this new opponent was as resourceful as cowardly. Worse still they seemed to be as numerous as ants. Kelta’rik devoted many days of contemplation to the search for a way to defeat these strange beings, creatures that he hated more than anything else. The death of Reet-Klut lay like a heavy weight upon his heart and he was determined to make his killers pay. After a devastative battle against his new arch-enemies Kelta’Rik noticed the shatters of a destroyed Ice Elemental lying on the soil. An idea came to him, and he used his signature Focus, the “Freezing Mist”, on the lifeless objects. The result was astonishing.
The reanimation of the Elemental splinters spawned the first Hail Kin, beings that were smaller than their massive elemental brothers but showed totally new abilities and characteristics. For Kelta’Rik this was the weapon to aid the defeat of “Those Without Honour”. After a few field tests he was satisfied with the Hail Kin and he freely distributed his newfound knowledge among his fellow Wardens. As well as their power in battle the addition of these new elementals to the Ice Caste’s forces has greatly boosted Kelta’rik’s standing among his peers.

Dragyri Ice Caste - Hail-Kin

Interested in seeing more of the Hail-Kin? Tune in soon to see the rules and a new Foci for this exciting new unit!

New Air Caste Concept art
With Dark Age Game's forthcoming SC10 book on the horizon we felt it was time to introduce you to the Dragyri Air Caste.

When talking about what other races call “zephyrs” the Tack’kut speak about the Hon’an’itra - the winds that bite. For them – and especially for the members of the Air Caste – the Zephyrs are vicious and wild elemental beings, who according to legends ride the storm winds like shepherd dogs who watch over their flock. Those “wind dogs” are said to be fierce and wild, and only the most adept of the Air Caste Soul Wardens are capable of taming them. Even then, this kind of control is only temporary. The Zephyrs’ bestial temper can’t be suppressed for a long time. What makes the Zephyrs such dangerous enemies is the Sheer ability that comes with their elemental nature. How can one defeat an emotionless enemy, especially one that has no stable physical form?

A pack of Hon’an’itra chasing the storm winds is a terrifying sight. Those who have witnessed such an incident tell of Zephyrs hunting down the careless travelers and lost animals in the mountains. Those poor victims seem to be dragged away by the storm winds themselves. Sometimes their remains are found the next day, the bones badly chewed by large teeth and the limbs broken like from falling over a hundred meters. But most are never seen again. It is more than a Trueborn fairy tale that one can hear the bizarre howls of the Zephyrs on moonless mountain nights when the strong winds gust. Too many Trueborn bear witness to this incident to simply dismiss it.

Dragyri Air Caste - Zephyrs

Stay tuned as in the next few weeks we will show you the greens to some of these Air Units and the Concept for the Hail-kin a new Elemental unit for Ice Caste.
